This absolutely fantastic species belongs to the closer relatives of Aristolochia arborea and represents the smallest member of the subgenus Siphisia. Woolly, erect shoots arise from a kind of horizontal underground "rhizome" which, in fact, is the modified main stem of this plant.

 

Like all its congeners it flowers continuously throughout the year. Propagation occurs slowly by enlarging and splitting up the underground organ.
