Not much is known about this Brazilian species beside the fact it belongs to a group of several closely related species (pilosa complex) scattered from Mexico to Brazil.

 

Species of this complex are characterized by the presence of large, stiff trichomes completely covering flowers and foliage. Although molecular investigations are yet missing it seems this complex is capable of hybridizing within its members as well as with species of the similarly confusing rugosa complex.
