A mature specimen of Aristolochia chilensis at the coastside of Chile is just an impressive sight! The massive underground stem produces more and more shoots every year enabling the plant to cover several square metres in a single growing season.

Comparatively large flowers appear along the older shoots, usually densely coated with trichomes at the opening.

There seem to exist numerous local varieties concerning the floral structure, pubescence and colorations which makes this species a very enjoyable one in culture.
